HL Science & Technology (HLST), established in Hong Kong in 2011, was co-founded by a group of academic and professional experts in vacuum technology, chemistry, physics and materials engineering. Prior to the foundation of HLST, these experts had invented processes practically translated to industrial production, processes such as plasma-assisted chemical-vapor-deposition (PECVD) of silicon-nitride for the production of transistors, ozone-oxidation of III-V compound semiconductors for the production of transistors and optoelectronics, hot-filament-CVD and PECVD of diamond films for the production of anti-erosion-coatings on cutting-tools and for the production of thick-film-heat-sinks, and decorative hard-coatings for the production of watches and for the production of car-parts. These practical technical-knowhows, together with the intellectual properties directly created by HLST, are the key assets and core competence of HLST.

HLST is dedicated to serving our clients with state-of-the-art surface treatment solutions based on our rich portfolio of practical and proprietary technologies including our US patents, Canadian patents, China patents, and proprietary technical-knowhows. Since 2011, HLST has led the following cases of technology transfer: (1) ionic liquid plating of CIGS (CuInxGa1-xSe2) thin-films; (2) production of CIGS photovoltaic modules; (3) production of transparent and durable antimicrobial ultrathin-coatings on jewelry. Among these cases, the development of antimicrobial coatings on jewelry is particularly technically-demanding because our client, a global jewelry business-leader, wants a functional and durable overlayer on jewelry virtually with no change of the optical appearance of the jewelry. For meeting these stringent technological specifications, HLST invented coating recipes and production equipment, and successfully licensed such intellectual properties to the client. In accomplishing this success-case, HLST invented and developed an interruptive coating-technology, and coined a term “hyperthermal hydrogen induced crosslinking" (HHIC) to highlight the basic science in this novel coating-technology. In brief, a functional molecular film, like the antimicrobial film on jewelry, is produced by cross-linking precursor-molecules having the desirable functional property into an overlayer of a few nanometers on a work-piece, not with nasty and dangerous chemicals to cross-link and fix the precursors but with the HLST-invention of hyperthermal-hydrogen induced crosslinking. Currently, HLST is developing a family of industrial applications to exploit the HHIC technology.

In 2018, HL Science & Technology (Foshan) Limited, with a registered capital of 30 million yuans, was founded to expand the business of HL Science & Technology (HK) Limited. The corporation in Foshan aims at mushrooming the HL business (R&D, production and sales) in mainland China, with the corporation in Hong Kong focusing on international matters such as global technology-transfer and global business-expansions.
